William Hill let brand-new consumer bet ₤ 23,000 in 20 minutes

Three gambling companies owned by William Hill are to pay penalties of ₤ 19.2 m for working to protect customers and weak anti-money laundering controls.

The previous biggest penalty imposed by the Gambling Commission was ₤ 17m against Entain in 2015.

Despite the charges, Mr Rhodes stated there were now "indications of improvement" in gambling operators' behaviour.

"There are indications that the yohaig code industry is doing more to make gambling more secure and decreasing the possibility of criminal funds entering their organizations," he stated.
