Warri Wolves took home two of the biggest honors at the League (NNL) April/May Excellence Awards, to be held on 18 June at Abuja’s West Point Hotel. Coach Napoleon Aluma was named Best Coach, while goalkeeper Efevwerha Joke secured Best Goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Edel FC’s striker Gukut Merpring Chindi has been recognised as the April top scorer. He netted three goals and provided one assist in just four games, and added another goal in May—bringing his tally to five in seven matches, aiding Edel’s fight against relegation.
Additional awards to be presented include Best Behaved Team (Sokoto United FC), MVP (Valentine Ugwu of Solution FC), and Goal of the Month (Shamasu Mohammed of Barau FC). Representatives from the NFF, NNL, and partnering organisations are expected to attend the ceremony.
Editorial
We celebrate Warri Wolves’ stellar double win because it reflects more than individual acclaim it shows how cohesive leadership and defensive solidity can shape a season. Coach Napoleon Aluma’s tactical guidance and Joke’s consistency between the posts are proof that structure wins matches.
Yet accolades alone won’t secure promotion. To truly ascend, Warri???Wolves must channel this confidence into collective performance maintaining form in the league’s final stretch and delivering in key fixtures.
Equally exciting is Chindi’s rise at Edel FC. His goals have turned around a struggling campaign. We urge Edel’s management to back him with better service and midfield support the kind of investment that turns a scorer into a match-winner.
We also applaud the recognition for sportsmanship and individual flair in awards like Goal of the Month. They signal that Nigerian football values more than results it honours respect, creativity, and positive impact.
Looking ahead, we hope next season sees more teams building from defence up, and nurturing young goal scorers like Chindi. Excellence in the NNL should become a stepping-stone, not a peak.
